Help Us Clean Up the Humber River

.

Since announcing the urgent need for sponsors to keep the clean-up running, local environmental business Spinnaker Recycling Corp. has answered the call and stepped up as a financial sponsor of the event, but more help is still needed to keep it running.
For the past four events, local kayaker, Bloor West resident and conservationist Rick Crawford has funded The Humber River Clean-Up from his own pockets. Sadly, this year, the fifth Humber River Clean-Up, could be the last unless Crawford can find local businesses to help ease the financial burden. At yearly cost of $8,000, Crawford simply can’t continue on his own.
“Local business like the Complete Paddler and SDS have been great partners in bringing canoes for water retrieval, volunteers, and providing a place to safely dump the refuse,” said Crawford. “But what we really need this year, and moving forward, are local businesses to help pay for the hard costs of the event. I hope this great ecological effort can continue.”

The Humber River Clean-Up was created by 1-800 RID-OF-IT President Rick Crawford, a Bloor West resident and keen kayaker. Crawford decided to take action when seeing the mass of accumulated rubbish while padding in the area. This year’s Clean-Up will be the fifth time Crawford and crew have run the grassroots event.
I can’t believe the things that have ended up in the Humber River and around the shoreline,” added Crawford. “It’s a beautiful part of the city, but it really needed someone to step in and clean it up.”
Mink, beaver, blue heron, fox, deer and white egrets all live in or near the Humber River. The waters and surrounding parkland is a hidden wildlife sanctuary in the midst of our concrete jungle.
There’s still time for sponsors, individuals, small businesses and corporations to step in and step up to save the event. The Humber River Clean-Up 2015is also putting out a plea for volunteers to help out on September 30, 2015 – the day of the event.
