Gene DiNovi
June 7

Gene DiNovi's love for, and understanding of the popular song became strongly evident during the 1950s. His playing during these years attracted the attention of singers such as Peggy Lee, Tony Bennett, and Lena Horne. In fact, DiNovi was in demand by just about every great singer of that era, each of them wanting his backing as a musical director.  It was through these stellar performers that DiNovi came to know and work with the finest songwriters including Harold Arlen, Jimmy Van Husen, and Harry Warren.

Arlene Smith Quartet
June 9

Venerated singing star ARLENE SMITH's rich contralto voice has made her one of the Toronto club scene's best-loved singers ever since she relocated here in the early '90s after two decades playing to packed houses and critical acclaim in New York and her native Montreal. In Toronto, she immediately became an important regular on the performance rosters at revered jazz venues including The Montreal Bistro, George's, Bourbon Street, and Top O' The Senator, working with Toronto's finest musicians including Moe Koffman, Peter Appleyard, and Norman Amadio.

Pat Collins Trio
June 10

Bass great PAT COLLINS is one of Toronto's first call jazz musicians who has, since moving here from Qualicum Beach, B.C. in the late '80s, served as a long-time member of the Moe Koffman Quintet, touring across Canada and Germany; performed in the Ed Bickert Quartet; played with the Oscar Peterson Quartet, the Peter Appleyard Quartet, the Diana Krall Trio; and backed dozens of other giants of the entertainment industry.

Michael Dunston Trio
June 11

Tonight we feature chart-topping R&B recording artist MICHAEL DUNSTON. Long revered as a leader in the 'soul revolution', he's a multiple 'Wave Awards' nominee, who's been dubbed 'a ballad's best friend' by respected peers.  His impressive career resume includes notable work in film including a starring role as Bo Diddley.
