Etobicoke's Weston Golf Course to host Tournament in support of the Juno Beach Centre

Veterans and Military Community to Gather For Annual Remembrance Day Tournament

TORONTO – NOVEMBER 11, 2014 – The Weston Golf and Country Club will once again host
Canadian Veterans, Currently Serving Canadian Forces personnel, Weston members and special guests for its annual Remembrance Day tournament. The event kicks-off with a traditional service and ends with a reception in the clubhouse.  2014 marks the 12th anniversary of the tournament, which aims to honour veterans and Canadian Forces members serving today in Afghanistan and around the world, with proceeds supporting the Juno Beach Centre Association.

The goal this year is to raise $10,000 to see 40 Commemorative Bricks sponsored in honour of Canadians killed in action in Afghanistan. The event was started when a group of Weston members wanted to find a way to expand Remembrance Day beyond the traditional morning service. They decided that regardless of the weather conditions, they would host a golf tournament, donating the proceeds to a worthy cause.

The Juno Beach Centre Association was established in 2003 by veterans with a vision to create a permanent memorial to all Canadians who served Canada during the Second World War and preserve this legacy for future generations through education. The Centre in Normandy pays homage to the nearly 45,000 Canadians who died during the War, of which 5,500 during the Battle of Normandy and 359 on D-Day. A decade and over half a million visitors later, the Centre has been designated a site of national historic significance to Canada. www.junobeach.org
